Calcium chloride dry products are available as 77% CaCl2 flake
and 80-96% CaCl2 pellets and nuggets.
The advantages of calcium chloride flakes are that they provide
a large flat surface area and stay put when applied. They also
easily pass through ice melt spreaders and equipment.

They do tend to roll like small BB's, which in some applications
is an advantage and in others, a disadvantage.

since they are egg shaped, they don't roll away like pellets and

in the US market in 2004. They're gaining a lot of popularity
in places where it's important to prevent shrub and turf damage
that's often caused from ice melters bouncing off the treated
area. The nuggets allow for added control of the spreading on
sidewalks and entrance areas.
